ONE80 HEALTH BLOG
ONE80 Health has build it foundation of lifestyle and physical medicine around ensuring that the four (4) pillars of health are being constantly optimized. Our goal is to guide you in improving your sleep, nutrition, mindset and movement in order to live your best life. Our esteemed team is continuously adding to our resources in order for you to better manage these 4 Pillars and ultimately find health and wellbeing. By making small, achievable changes in each of these key areas, you can create and maintain good health – and avoid illness.
At ONE80, it’s not about excelling at any one pillar – what matters is the balance across all the things you do.
SLEEP
Sleep is critical for both physical and mental health and wellbeing. It is considered the most important of the pillars of health.
It is during sleep that your body regenerates itself. Regular, good quality sleep allows for your brain to detoxify and improve functioning as well as balancing your hormones, repairing damaged tissue and restoring optimal function to your immune system.
Having good sleep hygiene is critical! Finding time to wind down and relax before getting into bed and putting all distractions such as work away help to enhance the quality of sleep. To optimize sleep, it must also be consistent, uninterrupted and long enough so that you can create the resilience necessary for life.
NUTRITION
Optimal nutrition is all about nourishing and fuelling the body. Healthy eating is fundamental to good health and a key element in healthy human development as we age through the different stages of life. It is equally important in reducing the risk of many chronic diseases and illness. Food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly.
Consuming a balanced diet generally consists of eating whole foods and doing your best to eliminate processed foods and compromising habits. Keep in mind there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to eating a healthy diet.
Remember, food is medicine.
MINDSET
Mindfulness and mindset are sometimes used interchangeably, but they are different. Mindset is is the set of beliefs we have about ourselves and our potential. Whereas, mindfulness is the practice of noticing the degree in which we are identified with our ideas and beliefs – this is where we take our thoughts
It is beneficial to navigate away from a fixed mindset and transition towards a growth mindset in which we see and believe in our capacity to change.
Maintaining a healthy growth mindset allows us to navigate stress and challenges and be resilient.
Cultivating a growth mindset could be the single most important thing you ever do to help yourself achieve wellbeing and success.
MOVEMENT
Moving the body in a continuous and consistent way is a good starting point for some. Simple movements will get the blood flowing, joints moving and reduce stress.
Maintaining a healthy relationship with movement and fitness is important. It’s not about how many calories you burned; instead try to focus on the quality of movement and improving your physical fitness and movement patterns. Optimal exercise can involve a combination of activities such as strength training, low and high intensity cardio, mobility training, and stretching. The key focus should ultimately be on doing something that you enjoy. If you enjoy doing something, it is much more likely that you will stay motivated.
