What is IV Therapy?

Intravenous therapy is a way of delivering high doses of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients directly into your bloodstream where your body can easily, effectively and rapidly access and use them. The intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver fluids and vitamins throughout the body with 100 % absorption into the bloodstream.

How does IV Therapy Work?

IV therapy is one of the fastest and most efficient ways to deliver fluids and medications to your body.

When we take pills or other supplements orally, much is lost in the digestion process. By injecting nutrients intravenously, we can bypass the liver and digestive system to increase absorption and directly affect the tissues and cells of the body. We can also deliver a higher concentration of nutrients at a much faster rate.

+ What kind of conditions can be treated with IV therapy?

  • Migraines

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

  • Rheumatoid arthritis and other musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions

  • Chronic asthma

  • Depression

  • Cancer

  • IV’s are also used to boost energy, improve surgical recovery, improve sports performance, boost immune system and relieve everyday complaints like headaches, allergies and fatigue.

Will it hurt?

Besides the mild prick of the needle, IV therapies can be quite comfortable. You’ll have a chance to lay back, relax and think of your health (or anything else you want). In modern times, there are not many prescribed opportunities to relax and many of our patients look forward to their next treatment.

Is it safe?

Side effects and complications are rare. Most people tolerate IV therapy quite well, and have no trouble during or after the treatment. You might have some redness where the IV goes in, or a bit of tenderness, but overall it is quite comfortable. A Naturopathic Doctor with a special IV license will be the one to administer any of our offered IV Therapy services.

What is the difference between an IV Drip, Iv push, and an Intramuscular injection?

“IV” is the abbreviation for “intravenous”. An IV drip is administered similarly to that of a blood sample being taken. IV drips can consist of 250 ml to 1000 ml of fluid containing vitamins and antioxidants and usually take anywhere from 45 mins to 90 minutes to infuse.

An IV Push (quick drip) is infused intravenously as well, with a 60 cc syringe allowing a quick 10-15 minute administration. You still receive a 100% absorption into the bloodstream with an IV Push.

An intramuscular (IM) injection is a quick shot directly into muscle tissue (usually into the gluteal or deltoid muscle). There is no IV access required with IM injections. The booster shot muscle absorption is nearly equal to that of an IV going directly into the bloodstream.

How Long Does IV Therapy Last?

After an IV infusion, the vitamins remain in your system and maintain your levels for 2-3 weeks because it is absorbed directly into your bloodstream and bypasses the GI tract. One IM (intramuscular) vitamin booster shot is equivalent to taking one week’s worth of oral vitamin supplements.

How often should I have an IV Treatment?

The frequency of IV Drip therapy is determined on a patient by patient basis, ONE80 health takes a customized approach to suit your individual needs. For preventative health and wellness, we recommend two IV drips per month to help balance out any vitamin deficiencies.

In some cases, with people who suffer from advanced stages of autoimmune diseases or cancer, continued IV therapy may be necessary for nutritional support. Some patients get progressively better and after a series of treatments they no longer require ongoing weekly IV therapy, only monthly treatments to maintain balance. Other patients need regular vitamin injections in order to help alleviate symptoms of their chronic or common medical conditions.
